Review: Eat Shop Save

My mum purchased this book before she went away so I was left with the job of looking through it and finding recipes for us. I am so glad she did as I found some amazing recipes, some of which I tried out during the week.

The first dish I made was the Spanish Chicken. I didn’t have all the ingredients so I added Rataouille (from a can) into the mixture. It was very good, full of spice and warmth. The paprika added a good taste, I love paprika. I didn’t have any sweet potato so I had to add croquette potatoes! But, I will definitely be doing this receipt again...just with the right ingredients! I can’t say it looked like the picture though!

The second was the Cheddar, Tomato and Avocado Omelette. I’ve never made an omelette before so this was new to me and I definitely need some assistance. I have no idea how to make an omelette look like the picture, any tips please share! It was okay though, a bit bland though. I don’t know what was missing, maybe a bit of spice? I will try again though. Check out the picture from the book, totally the same right!?

The third dish I completed was the Kale and Mushroom Stir Fry. I did like this dish, the peanut butter made it too thick. If I was to complete this dish again I would take out the peanut butter. I love the mix of kale, mushroom and soy sauce though. It was a mix I have never eaten before. This dish looked almost like the picture...right?!

The fourth dish was the Creamy Chicken Speedy Stew. I was in love with this dish. I was unsure how it would be creamy without adding any dairy but the liquid in the Cannellini beans turned thick and creamy. It tasted really well. It looks really bland I know, but the flavours are very strong. The added Parmesan cheese made a nice cheesy taste, without being over bearing. I didn’t have the leaf bits to make it look fancy but oh well! (My mum grew the tomato too!)

The last dish I completed was the One Pot Chicken Curry. I really loved this dish also, trying lentils for the first time too! I used Balti paste in my dish and it added a nice flavour. I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice but the paste added a little bit of kick but not too much. I have never eaten lentils before and I really liked them. I can’t wait to experiment with lentils in other dishes. Again, I didn’t have the fancy leaves!!

I really loved this book, I can’t wait to try out more recipes. Have you got a favourite cook book? What is it? Share in the comments!

Welcome!

This is my new blog! I hope you all enjoy reading whatever nonsense I decide to write about. I will write about the following:

  • Anxiety
  • My journey through anxiety, counselling and depression
  • My spiritual journey
  • Reviews on films, books, tv shows, theatre, beauty and food
  • Insightful views on any random points
  • PCOS
It may seem a bit doom and gloom, but I know, from experience, reading blogs from people going through the same things has really helped me. I hope that by writing my views and experiences it may help someone else. I will try and make it light hearted where I can!

Well, I look forward to hearing your views on my posts.

Much love,
